Recently I have been talking to people about the AI trends and its impact on our society. It always goes like this, either we think it’s much better than the human workforce and going to replace us or we say that these multibillion dollar corporations are overhyping the AI for their own good. But in this argument we miss one subtle truth that AI is not just a new technology and it’s growing at lightning speed. There is an alternate way of thinking about this.

AI is not just a technological revolution in the software industry, rather it’s going to be a fundamental change of how we approach this world with our collective consciousness. What I mean is that AI is like a new electricity. It’s not just a tool which will replace our jobs even though that might happen in the middle of the chaos. But it is a platform which will transform everything around us in unimaginable ways. When the first time electricity was invented people might not have thought about computers. There were some quick applications like light bulbs and motors. But that was not the end, we created a whole new kind of things like computers and electronic devices. These devices change how we think and interact with our world in so many different ways.

So what I am saying is don’t think of AI as just a tool, it is a platform which is going to change how we are going to think and interact in our world. We are just at the beginning of that journey, it is going to open new gates to the unexplored paths.

Also people fear losing jobs due to increase in productivity in AI. This is because we are so much addicted to this 9 to 5 job mindset. Yes, maybe few people might lose their jobs, but it’s not because of AI, but rather due to the greedy mindset and talentless leadership of corporations. If you think clearly, AI is helping us by automating our redundant part of the work. Now we have got extra time to spend on unexplored paths. Those side projects that we thought of trying for a long time, those new experiments that we missed because of a hectic job schedule and many more. It’s time to focus on them. I strongly believe that in this way we will bring more useful inventions to our world.

Also think of how these AI chatbots changed the fundamental limitations of education. The premium tutor which only rich kids had previously is now accessible to most of our children and even for adults. We just have to teach them one thing: how to ask questions to these chat bots. This is just one example of what I am talking about.

One more important aspect is this AI boom is going to switch on the survival mode of each of us. We know that humans strive in critical situations. We invented much of our today’s technology like nuclear, radio transmission and computers themselves during the time of wars. We invented much of our social media platforms and useful softwares during the economical crisis like dot com burst.
A similar effect is going to make people try to explore unexplored paths and come up with new ideas. I hope it will make our lives much better than what we have today.

This AI chaos is going to be a new electricity and the ladder for human advancement.
